Terms & Conditions
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Karunya Foundation ("the foundation", "we", "us"). By creating an account in the app or using the app or this website, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. The service
The app offers guided meditations, step-by-step puja vidhis with their mantras and materials, a daily panchangam, and a personal practice record, for the personal spiritual practice of the foundation's students. The service is provided free of charge. The app contains no advertising and offers nothing for sale.
3. Your account
- You must provide accurate information when registering, and keep your email account secure, since sign-in codes are sent to it.
- Your account is personal. Do not share it or use another person's account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the app; if you are under 18, use it with the consent of a parent or guardian.
- You may delete your account at any time; see Account deletion.
4. Access codes
- Some practices are locked. They are opened only with an access code given to you personally by your teacher.
- Access codes are a gift of the teacher, free of charge. They are not sold, and nothing in the app is a purchase.
- Codes are personal and non-transferable. Do not share, publish, trade, or attempt to guess codes.
- The foundation may change, rotate, or revoke codes and unlocks at its discretion, including where these terms are violated.
5. Content and intellectual property
- All content in the app and on this website, including recordings, texts, translations, teachings, artwork, and the selection and arrangement of practices, belongs to the foundation or its teacher and is protected by copyright.
- You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the content for your own practice.
- You may not copy, record, download by circumvention, redistribute, publish, publicly perform, or commercially exploit any content, in whole or in part, without written permission.
- Mantras and traditional practices themselves belong to the tradition; the recordings and renderings in the app remain our work.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to interfere with or disrupt the service, probe or circumvent its security or access controls, use automated means to scrape or download content, reverse engineer the app except where the law permits, or use the service for any unlawful purpose.
7. Not medical, health, or professional advice
- The app offers spiritual and contemplative practice. It is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from qualified professionals.
- Some practices involve breath regulation or sustained sitting. Practice within your capacity, stop if you feel unwell, and consult a doctor first if you are pregnant or have a respiratory, cardiac, or other medical condition.
- If you are in crisis or concerned about your mental health, seek professional help immediately.
8. Ritual practice and safety
Puja vidhis may involve a diya, camphor, incense, and other materials with open flames. You perform rituals at your own home and at your own risk. Handle flames and materials safely, never leave them unattended, and keep them away from children and anything flammable. The panchangam and muhurta information is provided for devotional use, calculated by a third-party service, and is not guaranteed to be accurate.
9. Availability and changes
We may add, change, or remove content and features, and may suspend or discontinue the service in whole or in part, at any time. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Practice records and other data may be lost; the practice itself, not the record, is the point.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. To the same extent, the foundation, its teacher, and its volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and nothing limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Protection Act of South Africa where it applies.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or harms the service or other students. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. Sections 5, 7, 8, and 10 survive termination.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the current version always lives at this address with its effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction over any dispute, without depriving you of protections granted by the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
14. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and the foundation about the service.
